Month-to-month means nothing is locked in: start with a child seat and switch to a cargo bike at renewal as your family grows.

Can you hire an electric bike with a child seat in London?

Yes. Moon Bike Rentals hires out family e-bikes with a child seat in London on a monthly subscription at £125 per month. The seat is fitted for your child at handover, and the monthly price includes a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking and regular servicing — renewing monthly from a one-month minimum, with one week’s notice to end.

A child seat suits one child — typically from around nine months, once they can sit unsupported, up to roughly 22 kg depending on the seat. Carrying two or more children calls for a cargo bike instead: a long-tail or front-box, which we hire on the same all-inclusive terms. E-bikes are electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs), so there is no licence, no road tax and no ULEZ charge.

Child seats, answered

Frequently asked

What age can my child ride in a bike child seat?
Most rear child seats suit children from around nine months — once they can sit unsupported and wear a helmet — up to roughly 22 kg (about four to five years old), depending on the seat. We fit the right seat for your child at handover and show you how to strap them in safely.
How much does it cost to hire an electric bike with a child seat in London?
£125 per month: the child seat, a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking and regular servicing are all in the monthly price. Optional Damage & Excess Protection is £20/month, and there’s no deposit unless you take it (£50).
Is an e-bike with a child seat enough, or do I need a cargo bike?
One child plus bags: an e-bike with a child seat is lighter, nimbler and easier to store — and ours have more carrying capacity than a typical e-bike. Two or more children: you’ll want a long-tail or front-box cargo bike — both arriving soon, so register your interest now. Subscriptions renew monthly, so you can switch at renewal as your family grows.
Can I use a child seat I already own?
You don’t need to — a child seat is included and fitted for your family at handover. If you’d rather use a seat you already own, ask us first and we’ll check it can be fitted safely.
Do I need a licence to ride an electric bike with a child seat?
No. E-bikes are classed as electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs), so you need no licence, no CBT and no road tax, and they are exempt from ULEZ and the congestion charge. You can ride one from age 14, and no insurance is legally required — optional Damage & Excess Protection (£20/month) caps damage or theft costs at a £50 excess.
