Terms of service
These terms summarise your rental of a Moon Bike Rentals electric cargo bike from Otto Scooter Ltd (trading as Moon Bike Rentals). By renting a bike you enter into our rental agreement (V.03, July 2026).
The rental
Otto Scooter Ltd (trading as Moon Bike Rentals) rents family electric cargo bikes in London. Every rental includes a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking, regular servicing (free, every 1,200 miles, booked online) and child seats set up for your family.
Term, renewal & ending the rental
The minimum term is 1 month. After the first month the rental renews monthly, up to the maximum hire period of 84 days. You can end it at any monthly renewal by giving 1 week’s notice before your renewal date, by email to [email protected]. Returns are Monday–Friday, 9am–1pm / 2pm–5pm.
Cancellation before collection
Because vehicle rental for a specific period is exempt from the 14-day online cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(h), Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), the statutory cooling-off right does not apply to this booking. If you decide not to proceed after booking your check-in, a £25 fee applies as set out in the rental agreement.
Eligibility & permitted use
The hirer must be 18 or over; riders must be 14 or over (the legal EAPC minimum). The bike may be used in England, Wales and Scotland only. Keep it locked with the chain or U-lock provided whenever it is unattended, and never leave the batteries or chargers with the bike overnight. Electric cargo bikes are electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs): no licence is needed and no insurance is legally required — renting one does not mean you are personally insured.
Carrying children
Our cargo bikes are designed to carry children within the stated capacity for each model. You are responsible for ensuring children are correctly seated and secured, and we recommend a helmet for every passenger. Do not exceed the stated passenger or weight limits.
Damage & Excess Protection (optional waiver)
Damage & Excess Protection costs £20.00 per month and is always optional — never pre-selected. It is a contractual waiver, not an insurance policy: if you take it, we won’t charge you more than £50 for accidental damage to or theft of the bike (a £50 non-waivable excess), and we take a £50 deposit matching that excess. Without it, your damage/theft excess is £600 and there is no deposit. The waiver never applies where there is rider abuse, negligence, breach of the rental agreement, use by an unauthorised person, or where batteries and chargers are not returned after a theft.
Theft, accidents & incidents
In the event of theft, notify the police immediately and contact us — we can assist recovery using GPS tracking and arrange a replacement. After an accident you must complete our accident report form within 72 hours; if a late or missing report causes us loss, we may recover that loss from you, capped at £500.
Payments
The subscription is billed monthly. If a card payment fails, a £10 resubmission fee applies per resubmission. If a payment remains unpaid we will notify you and give you 7 days to put it right before the rental can be terminated for non-payment.
Servicing & telematics
A free service is due every 1,200 miles and is booked online. Missing a scheduled service costs £0.10 per mile ridden over the interval; missing a service we direct you to book costs £5 per day. Every bike carries a GPS tracker/telematics and may carry a camera — see our Privacy Policy for how that data is used.
Changes to these terms
If we change prices or terms we will give you at least 14 days’ notice. Changes are never retrospective, and if a change materially disadvantages you, you may end the rental without penalty before it takes effect.
Complaints
To complain, email [email protected] and we will respond as quickly as we can. Your statutory rights are unaffected, and Citizens Advice can provide free, independent advice.
