Damage & Excess Protection — £20/month

For £20 a month, the most you can ever be charged for accidental damage or theft is £50 instead of £600. Damage & Excess Protection is a contractual waiver, not an insurance policy, and it’s always your choice — never pre-selected. (EAPCs need no insurance by law, and renting one doesn’t mean you’re personally insured.)

Without the waiver

  • Damage/theft excess: £600
  • Deposit: none

With Damage & Excess Protection +£20/mo

  • Damage/theft excess: £50 (non-waivable)
  • Deposit: £50, matching the excess

The waiver never covers rider abuse, negligence, breach of the rental agreement, use by an unauthorised person, or batteries and chargers not returned after a theft.

How much does a family cargo bike subscription cost in London?

A Moon Bike Rentals subscription in London costs £125 per month for a one-child e-bike with a fitted child seat (the CYCL compact family e-bike or the ETT e-bike with child seat). The bigger cargo bikes are arriving soon — a long-tail that carries two children at £210 per month and a front-box that carries two to three at £250 per month; you can register your interest today. Every price is all-inclusive.

Each monthly price covers a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking, regular servicing and child seats set up for your family. The minimum term is one month, renewing monthly up to the 84-day maximum hire period, with one week’s notice to end. Optional Damage & Excess Protection is £20 per month — a waiver, not insurance, that reduces the damage/theft excess from £600 to £50 (with a matching £50 deposit; no deposit without it). Electric cargo bikes need no licence, no road tax and are exempt from ULEZ and the congestion charge. For comparison, the RAC puts the average cost of running a car at roughly £317 a month, and unlike daily cargo bike hire from a bike shop, a monthly subscription includes servicing and child set-up for everyday use.

Frequently asked

How much is a family cargo bike subscription in London?
Moon Bike Rentals subscriptions are £125/month for a one-child bike (the CYCL compact family e-bike or the ETT e-bike with child seat). The bigger cargo bikes are arriving soon — a long-tail that carries two at £210/month and a front-box that carries two to three at £250/month; register your interest and we will contact you as soon as they land. Every price includes a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking, servicing and child set-up. Optional Damage & Excess Protection is £20/month.
Is it really all-inclusive?
The monthly price covers a heavy-duty lock, GPS tracking, regular servicing and child seats set up for your family. Electric cargo bikes are EAPCs, so there is no road tax, no ULEZ charge, no licence — and no insurance is legally required. Optional Damage & Excess Protection is available at £20/month: a contractual waiver, not an insurance policy — if you take it, we won’t charge you more than £50 for accidental damage to or theft of the bike, instead of the standard £600 excess.
Is there a deposit or minimum term?
There is no deposit — unless you take the optional Damage & Excess Protection waiver, in which case we take a £50 deposit matching its £50 excess. The minimum term is one month; the subscription then renews monthly up to the 84-day maximum hire period, with one week’s notice to end. You just need to return the bike in acceptable condition, Monday to Friday, 9am–1pm or 2pm–5pm.
How does it compare to running a second car?
The RAC puts the average cost of running a car at around £317 a month once you include insurance, fuel, tax, servicing and depreciation. A Moon Bike Rentals subscription starts at £125/month — and there is no parking to find at the school gate.
Can I switch bikes as my family grows?
Yes — the subscription renews monthly, so you can move up from a compact bike to a long-tail or front-box at renewal as your family grows. Just let us know before your renewal date.
